Sharon M. Theroux, PhD, ABPP
Dr. Theroux is the founder and executive director of the South Florida Center for Mindfulness. She is a licensed psychologist and board certified neuropsychologist, working in private practice since 1995. As a therapist, she specializes in the treatment of individuals with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, eating disorders and addictive behaviors. Her therapeutic approach is eclectic, primarily utilizing mindfulness with Nonviolent Communication. She is a registered Nonviolent Communication Trainer Candidate with the Center for Nonviolent Communication.
Dr. Theroux is certified to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) by the Oasis Institute at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is also a trained Mindful Self-Compassion teacher, receiving her training at the University of California at San Diego's Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute.
One of Dr. Theroux's greatest passions is assisting individuals who struggle with emotional eating. She is a certified Eat For Life mindful eating teacher, as well as a Facilitator in training for the Eat Right Now program. She serves on the board of The Center for Mindful Eating
A passionate advocate for teaching mindfulness-based interventions to health care professionals, Dr. Theroux co-founded International Seminars Group, an American Psychological Association (APA) continuing education sponsor.
